Meet our Staff

SSI Instructor Alex is the owner of the Dive Shop @ Athens Scuba Park as of January 2026. As an experienced SSI Instructor, he primarily focuses on diving training, especially in Full Face Mask training and Open Water classes at our facility. With over 15 years of dedication to our dive shop staff and 23 years of diving experience since he was just 8 years old, Alex has been immersed in the dive industry his whole life. He has appeared on several TV shows, including Beyond Oak Island, Yolo Tx, and Day Trippers, along with numerous news stories showcasing our facility. As a licensed service tech, he can work on most brands of gear. Alex is the son of Calvin and Shannon Wilcher, who have owned the facility since 1987, and he manages the dive shop, our social media, and the website, ensuring a top-notch experience for all our scuba diving staff and students.

Calvin is the original owner of Athens Scuba Park, a dive shop known for its exceptional diving training since its establishment in 1987. With over 30 years of experience as a PADI Instructor and Public Safety Diving Master Instructor, he has played a vital role in training scuba diving staff. Although he has retired from scuba instructing and has managed the business until 2026, he now enjoys treasure hunting as his main hobby. Calvin was also featured on Beyond Oak Island with Alex.

East Texas native

Diving the lakes of East Texas has become a passion for Scott, a dedicated member of the dive shop staff. Helping others learn about the wonderful world of scuba diving through professional diving training is truly a blessing for him.

As a certified PADI Instructor and SSI Instructor, Scott has been fortunate to travel to many places to dive and explore. He is also very involved in reef restoration and marine ecology, contributing his expertise as part of the scuba diving staff.

SSI Open Water Instructor Craig began his diving journey in 2023 and quickly discovered a passion for exploring the underwater world—and sharing it with others. He immersed himself in numerous diving training courses, which led him to become a Divemaster. After spending almost a year as a Divemaster, Craig transitioned to an SSI Instructor. As part of the dive shop staff, Craig is dedicated to helping new divers build confidence, develop strong foundational skills, and experience the excitement of scuba diving for the first time. His teaching style emphasizes safety, comfort, and creating a fun, supportive learning environment for every student. With a calm presence, patience, and a genuine love of diving, Craig enriches every class he teaches.
